Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Hybrid Program
Dates for the next EMR TBD
“The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) is an out of hospital practitioner whose primary focus is to initiate immediate lifesaving care to patients while ensuring patient access to the emergency medical services system. EMRs possess the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide lifesaving interventions while awaiting additional EMS response.” (2019 National EMS Scope of Practice). The EMR course is offered as a Hybrid Program which requires students to complete online learning modules each week throughout a 9-week course. Students will meet in person each week for hands-on practice. This program is ideal for firefighters, law enforcement and security officers and other public safety personnel who find themselves on the scene of a medical or traumatic emergency before EMS.
Courses offerings are currently being scheduled on an as-needed basis.

The 200-hour Emergency Medical Technician program teaches students to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. An EMT possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. The Emergency Medical Technician is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system. EMTs are taught to perform skills within their scope of practice. Some of these skills include: Insertion of airway and breathing adjuncts, provide supplemental oxygen therapy, perform a patient assessment to include basic vital signs, assist with or deliver some Pharmacologic interventions, perform CPR, assist with childbirth, provide trauma care. Upon successful completion of the EMT Program and certification exam, the entry-level EMTs serve as an EMS team member on an emergency call with more experienced personnel in the lead role. EMTs may serve as a team leader following additional training and/or experience.
