The 200-hour Emergency Medical Technician program teaches students to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. An EMT possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. The Emergency Medical Technician is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system. EMTs are taught to perform skills within their scope of practice. Some of these skills include: Insertion of airway and breathing adjuncts, provide supplemental oxygen therapy, perform a patient assessment to include basic vital signs, assist with or deliver some Pharmacologic interventions, perform CPR, assist with childbirth, provide trauma care. Upon successful completion of the EMT Program and certification exam, the entry-level EMTs serve as an EMS team member on an emergency call with more experienced personnel in the lead role. EMTs may serve as a team leader following additional training and/or experience.

  • This course is typically held twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. Fall classes will be forming soon.

  • Applications are accepted year-round. However, ALL applications must be received 60 days PRIOR to the start of the next available course. Walk-ins on the first day of the course are NOT accepted.

Applications are available on the menu tab.
