Conemaugh Health System announced today the 2024 recipients of the prestigious LifePoint Mercy Award; Jennifer Koontz, Lakyn Roadman, Deborah Hegedus, and Melissa Tomaselli, each chosen for going above and beyond for their patients, their hospitals, and the communities they serve.
The Mercy Award recognizes one employee from each of Lifepoint Health’s facilities who profoundly touches the lives of others and best represents the spirit and values on which the company was founded.
Established in 2001, the Mercy Award is an annual recognition program that honors the life and contributions of Scott Mercy, Lifepoint’s founding chairperson and chief executive officer. The award is considered the highest honor a Lifepoint employee can receive.
“At Conemaugh Health System, we are committed to advancing Lifepoint’s mission of making communities healthier, and our devoted team members are critical to this work,” said Rodney Reider, market president and chief executive officer of Conemaugh Health System. “We are so proud to recognize his/her positive contributions to improving the overall health of our patients, supporting their families, and serving our community. Each of these women goes the extra mile to meet any need that may arise and is a true champion of our caring culture at Conemaugh.”
Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center’s 2024 Mercy Award recipient is Jennifer Koontz. As the Trauma Program Manager, Koontz is extremely proud to be part of the organization, often coming to work early and staying late, reviewing charts to improve the trauma team. Koontz actively participates in numerous community initiatives and involves her coworkers in community events she organizes including road cleanups, Christmas Adopt-a-Family, and the Cambria County Backpack Project. Most recently, she worked closely with the Johnstown YMCA for their “Y Drown” water safety and car seat safety events.
Conemaugh Meyersdale Medical Center’s 2024 Mercy Award recipient is Lakyn Roadman. Roadman is the Administrative Assistant, also known as the “go-to” for her co-workers. She is constantly helping her co-workers, families, and patients and does so with such a positive attitude. Roadman is active in the Meyersdale community, where she volunteers as a softball coach at a local high school and coordinates hospital participation in the Maple Festival of Somerset County.
Conemaugh Miners Medical Center’s 2024 Mercy Award recipient is Deborah Hegedus. Hegedus is the Manager of Imaging and Respiratory at Conemaugh Miners. She is a kind, hardworking manager who takes immense pride in helping her community. Hegedus organizes various lunch and learn events for the community in addition to food and coat drives during the holidays.
Conemaugh Nason Medical Center’s 2024 Marcy Award recipient is Melissa Tomaselli. The emergency department nurse manager Tomaselli brings immense energy and enthusiasm to her role. She frequently works in the community teaching “Stop the Bleed” classes to schools, fire stations, and other emergency responders and works closely with EMS (Emergency Medical Services) providers to develop and implement strategic plans to improve patient care. Tomaselli also participates in many community initiatives and services raising money for the Make-A-Wish foundation and adopting a highway with her family.
Each winner will be considered for Lifepoint’s 2024 company-wide Mercy Award. The companywide winner will be announced this summer and honored during an August ceremony in Nashville, TN.
