Conemaugh Nason Medical Center Unveils New Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Suite
July 10, 2025

Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is proud to announce the opening of its new Gastrointestinal (GI) Endoscopy Suite, expanding access to vital diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for patients throughout Blair County and surrounding communities.
Located within the hospital’s surgical services area, the state-of-the-art suite is designed to deliver high-quality care in a comfortable, patient-centered environment. Equipped with the latest technology, the suite enables physicians to perform a wide range of minimally invasive procedures used to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the digestive system.
“A GI Endoscopy Suite is a critical resource for the early detection and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases,” said Michelle Buttry, Chief Operating Officer of Conemaugh Nason Medical Center. “This investment reflects our ongoing commitment to enhancing services for our community and providing safe, timely, and compassionate care close to home.”
Gastrointestinal endoscopy uses a thin, flexible tube with a camera—called an endoscope—to examine the interior of the digestive tract. Common procedures performed in the new suite include colonoscopy (used to screen for colorectal cancer), upper endoscopy (EGD) for evaluating reflux, ulcers, or swallowing difficulties, and other advanced diagnostics.
These procedures are essential in detecting conditions such as colorectal cancer, Crohn’s disease, ulcers, and gastrointestinal bleeding—often before symptoms become severe. The addition of the GI Endoscopy Suite ensures that patients can receive these potentially life-saving services locally, without the need to travel long distances or face extended wait times.
“This new suite not only expands our surgical capabilities but also enhances comfort, privacy, and convenience for our patients,” said George Cummings, DO, General Surgeon and Chief of Surgery at Conemaugh Nason. “We’re proud to offer comprehensive digestive care in a space equipped for the latest endoscopic techniques.”
“With all-new equipment and technology, the suite will allow our community members to stay on top of routine screenings, like colonoscopies, without having to wait months—or even years.”
The GI Endoscopy Suite is expected to welcome its first patients at the end of July.
