Conemaugh Nason Medical Center becomes the first hospital in western Pennsylvania to introduce Aquablation Therapy for Enlarged Prostate Treatment
May 6, 2025

Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is proud to announce the addition of Aquablation therapy, an advanced, minimally invasive treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), commonly known as an enlarged prostate. Conemaugh Nason is the only hospital in western Pennsylvania to offer this cutting-edge technology, providing a new option for patients suffering from BPH with long-lasting symptom relief and a lower risk of complications compared to traditional treatments.
BPH is a common condition affecting patients as they age, leading to symptoms such as frequent urination, weak urine flow, and difficulty emptying the bladder. If left untreated, BPH can significantly impact quality of life and lead to more serious complications. Aquablation therapy utilizes the precision of a robotically controlled, heat-free waterjet to remove excess prostate tissue while preserving surrounding structures that control urinary and sexual function.
“Aquablation therapy is a game-changer for patients dealing with BPH,” said Stephen Yanoshak, DO, Urologist. “This treatment is unique because it combines advanced imaging with robotic precision, allowing us to tailor the procedure to each patient’s anatomy while minimizing side effects. We are thrilled to offer this to our community as part of our commitment to high-quality, innovative care.”
Unlike traditional surgical treatments for BPH, which often involve heat-based methods that can lead to unwanted side effects, Aquablation therapy provides a safe and effective alternative. The procedure is performed in a hospital setting under anesthesia and typically requires only a short hospital stay. Clinical studies have shown that Aquablation therapy provides long-term relief while preserving continence and sexual function better than many other treatment options.
“At Conemaugh Nason Medical Center, we are dedicated to bringing the most advanced treatment options to our community, and we are proud to be the only hospital in all of Western Pennsylvania offering Aquablation therapy,” said Michelle Buttry, Chief Operating Officer. “By introducing this innovative technology, we continue our commitment to exceptional urologic care, ensuring our patients have access to the best possible treatment—right here, close to home."
Patients in Blair County and the surrounding region now have access to the state-of-the-art BPH treatment without having to travel. This investment in advanced medical technology aligns with Conemaugh Health System’s mission to provide leading-edge care while enhancing patient outcomes and quality of life.
