June 5, 2025
Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center today published its community benefit report for the 2024 calendar year. This annual report outlines the various ways the hospital is working to support the health and economic vitality of the Greater Johnstown community as part of its mission of making communities healthier®.
“For more than 135 years, Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center has been proud to call Johnstown and the Laurel Highlands our home, and as a leader in our community, we are committed to providing high-quality care close to home, investing in our region’s overall well-being and making a positive impact on those we serve,” said Rodney D. Reider, chief executive officer (CEO) of Conemaugh Health System. “This year’s report underscores our ongoing commitment to providing the highest quality care possible – both inside and outside our hospital walls.”
CMMC’s 2024 community benefit report highlights its continued efforts to meet the growing healthcare needs of the community through the addition of new providers, expansion of service lines, and ongoing investment in its facilities and healthcare technology. For example, in 2024, CMMC added 93 providers in emergency and family medicine, palliative care, behavioral medicine, cardiology, pathology, neonatology, neurology, orthopedic spine surgery. We invested more than $19 million in capital improvements, including renovations to the emergency department, parking garage upgrades, Ashman/Rose renovations, Intensive Care Unit upgrades, patient vital sign monitors, NICU ventilators, and enhancements to the East Hills Cancer Care Center. Furthermore, CMMC donated over $29 million in health services to those in need, showing its continuous commitment to ensuring everyone has access to care, regardless of their ability to pay.
Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center is also devoted to creating environments where providers want to practice and employees want to work. In 2024, the hospital distributed more than $237,940,583 in salaries, wages, and benefits to its approximately 2,450 employees, while contributing nearly $6 million in professional development and tuition assistance. This support enabled employees to learn, grow, and enhance the care they provided to their patients.
Last year, the organization paid more than $36 million in local and state taxes, while also continuing its support of local activities and organizations committed to serving the region,
including the American Heart Association, Cambria Alliance EMS, Southern Alleghenies EMS Council, The United Way of Laurel Highlands, Highlands Health Clinic, Cambria County Drug Coalition, Johnstown Area Heritage Association, Cambria County Children and Youth, Operation BeYoutiful, Pennsylvania Highland Community College, Tomahawks Hockey, Johnstown Mill Rats, and the Veterans Community Initiative, and Volunteer Fireman’s Association of Cambria County.
“We feel fortunate to call the greater Johnstown area our home, and we are incredibly grateful for the continued support of all those who entrust us with their care. We are also thankful for the hard work and dedication of our providers, employees, and volunteers who make it all possible, “said Reider. “As we look to the future, we remain committed to honoring our legacy while further enhancing the many ways we serve our neighbors and communities.”
