February 28, 2022

The Conemaugh School of Nursing and Allied Health will host an open house on Monday, March 21, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the education building across from Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center (1086 Franklin Street). The event is open to anyone aspiring to be a future healthcare hero.

Traditional high school students as well as individuals looking to make career transitions are welcome to attend to learn more about the programs. Students who wish to be considered for instant admission decisions must apply in advance and submit standardized test scores, high school, and college transcripts for review by March 15, 2022. Instant decision applicants who commit to attend will be entered into a drawing to win a variety of prizes and have the application fee waived for this day only.

Conemaugh School of Nursing offers a two-year curriculum approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Each academic year begins in August and consists of two 16-week semesters and one 8-week semester. Upon graduation, students will have logged 990 clinical hours and earned 25 college credits and 50 nursing credits. The 2021 graduating class recently achieved a 97.67 percent pass rate on the NCLEX exam for state boards, ranking among the highest pass rates in school history with 100 percent of graduates immediately gaining full-time employment as Registered Nurses.

The Allied Health programs provide rigorous educational and clinical training in emergency medical services (EMS), medical laboratory science, histotechnology, radiologic technology, and surgical technology. These programs offer excellent academic and clinical training with nearly all graduates passing their certification exams and gaining full-time employment immediately upon graduation. Several programs have been recognized nationally for their outstanding results.

“At a time when students are carefully considering the cost of their education and the career trajectory for their profession, diploma nursing programs and allied health programs like ours are a very attractive option for both high school students and adults looking to make a career transition,” said Bonnie Mazurak-Riga, DNP, MBA, RN and Director of Conemaugh School of Nursing and Allied Health Programs. “Across our country, there is – and will continue to be – a critical need for nurses and healthcare professionals to serve our communities. Our unique program fast tracks a person’s path to employment through strong academic and clinical training, as well as opportunities to work part-time in support roles while gaining valuable healthcare experience.”

Conemaugh Health System has a long history of hiring a significant number of nursing and Allied Health graduates annually, and students benefit from the advanced, integrated clinical experiences offered at hospitals across the system.
