Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center Welcomes Andrew Sword, MD, as OB Hospitalist

Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center is pleased to welcome Andrew James Sword, MD, to its Women and Children's Services team as an OB Hospitalist. Dr. Sword brings more than two decades of experience in obstetrics and gynecology, with a distinguished background in patient care, medical education, and clinical leadership. 

Prior to joining Conemaugh, Dr. Sword served as an attending physician with West Penn OBGYN Associates in Pittsburgh for more than 20 years and has held numerous leadership roles, including Physician Lead and Associate Patient Experience Officer within the Women's Institute at West Penn Hospital. 

As an OB Hospitalist at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Dr. Sword will provide specialized inpatient obstetrical care, helping to ensure round-the-clock support for patients during labor, delivery, and obstetrical emergencies. His extensive experience caring for women throughout every stage of pregnancy and childbirth will further strengthen Conemaugh's commitment to delivering high-quality, compassionate care for mothers and babies in the region. 

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Sword has spent many years teaching and mentoring medical students and residents, holding academic appointments at several institutions, including Drexel University College of Medicine and Temple University School of Medicine. 

Dr. Sword earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Magee-Women's Hospital of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. 

Throughout his career, Dr. Sword has been recognized for excellence in teaching and patient care, receiving honors including the Golden Apple Teaching Award from Drexel University College of Medicine, the APGO Excellence in Teaching Award, and multiple awards recognizing his commitment to clinical excellence.
