Conemaugh Health System unveils new Lung Nodule Clinic

In recognition of Lung Cancer Awareness Month, Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center is proud to announce the opening of its new Lung Nodule Clinic, designed to support early detection, timely diagnosis, and advanced care for patients with lung nodules and suspected lung cancer.

The Lung Nodule Clinic operates under the guiding principle of Early Detection. Timely Action. Advanced Care. The clinic’s multidisciplinary team of specialists—including experts in oncology, radiation oncology, cardiothoracic surgery, and pathology—work collaboratively to provide comprehensive, individualized care for every patient.

“Time matters when it comes to lung health,” said Zulfiqar Ali, MD, Medical Director of Pulmonology. “Our new Lung Nodule Clinic ensures patients are evaluated quickly, receive timely diagnostic testing, and benefit from the latest technologies and expert collaboration to achieve the best possible outcomes.”

The clinic offers a streamlined approach to lung care by prioritizing prompt appointments following referral and, when indicated, performing early bronchoscopic evaluation to prevent diagnostic delays. Using state-of-the-art robotic bronchoscopy technology, physicians can navigate deep into the lungs with enhanced precision to obtain accurate tissue samples while minimizing patient discomfort.

Patients are guided throughout their journey by Conemaugh’s Lung Health Nurse Navigator, Jennifer Bainey, RN, who provides education, support, and coordination of care from diagnosis through follow-up. The navigator helps patients understand their test results, schedule appointments, and connect with additional resources as needed, helping to ensure no one faces their lung health journey alone.

“Our goal is to reduce delays, ease anxiety, and help patients move forward with confidence,” said Mohamed Saad Eldin, MD. “By combining advanced technology, multidisciplinary expertise, and compassionate guidance, we are taking a significant step forward in improving lung health outcomes in our community.”

In addition to the Lung Nodule Clinic, Conemaugh Health System offers a variety of lung health programs, including:

  • Low-Dose CT Lung Cancer Screenings – Recommended for individuals at high risk for lung cancer, low-dose CT scans can detect abnormalities earlier, when treatment is most effective.

  • Black Lung Screening Program – Available at Conemaugh Miners Medical Center, designed for current and former coal miners, this program provides specialized evaluation and monitoring for those at risk of pneumoconiosis and other occupational lung diseases.

  • Multidisciplinary Tumor Board Review – Patient cases are reviewed by a collaborative panel of specialists who evaluate findings, discuss treatment options, and develop comprehensive care plans.
