Occupational Therapy

What Is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy (OT) provides patients with the opportunity to regain the skills and techniques necessary for the "job of living." This personalized approach to care focuses on helping patients of all ages overcome physical or cognitive barriers to help ensure they can participate fully in activities at home, at work and during leisure time.

To promote functional independence, we utilize therapeutic approaches such as:

  • Daily living retraining: Developing new ways to manage grooming, cooking and household tasks
  • Adaptive equipment training: Learning to use specialized tools that make everyday movements easier and safer
  • Fine motor coordination: Strengthening hand and finger dexterity for intricate or essential tasks
  • Custom splinting: Fabricating specialized supports to aid in healing and mobility

Recovery is most effective when it is integrated. Our occupational therapy services are closely coordinated with physical therapy to ensure a well-rounded, team-based approach to every patient's rehabilitation needs.
