Car Seat Safety

Car seat safety is important for the protection of each child in a motor vehicle. Because their spine is still developing and their head is large compared to the rest of their body, your newborn is at a high risk for injury in a car crash.

The safest place for your baby is securely strapped into a rear-facing car seat. All infants and toddlers should ride in a rear-facing car safety seat for a minimum of 2 years.

It is preferable that patients are familiar with their infant’s car seat prior to coming to the hospital and that the car seat base is installed properly in the back seat of the vehicle. Many local fire departments are able to assist with car seat installation. Conemaugh Maternity nurses are not permitted to assist with installation of your infant car seat.
