Conemaugh School of Nursing ranks 45th among PA’s Nursing Schools

December 30, 2020

The Conemaugh School of Nursing is proud to announce they are ranked 45th in Pennsylvania’s top Nursing schools.

A research team at Nursing Schools Almanac collected data on over 3,000 nursing schools across the United States. Each school was evaluated on three dimensions:

  • The institution’s academic prestige and perceived value
  • The breadth and depth of nursing programs offered
  • Student success, particularly on the NCLEX licensure examination

The assessments were combined into an overall score and schools were ranked accordingly.

Out of all the nursing programs in Pennsylvania, only 75 were ranked and Conemaugh’s program ranked 45. Since nursing is highly regulated, it requires a mandatory licensure exam known as The National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).  Nursing student performance on these tests provides a standardized metric for assessing the quality of instruction across schools. In addition, Conemaugh’s program has a 92% NCLEX pass rate. Programs that were surveyed either offered four year, two year, or diploma education.

“The legacy of nursing in Johnstown is strong. The Conemaugh School of Nursing opened in 1896. Since then, it has appeared on the list of approved schools of nursing since the Pennsylvania Board of Nursing compiled the first list in 1918. Including the Class of 2020, 4,126 nurses have graduated from this program and have provided health care worldwide.” – Dr. Bonnie Mazurak-Riga, Director, Conemaugh School of Nursing.
