Conemaugh Physician Group – Pathology welcomes board-certified pathologist Huaitao Yang, MD, PhD to its practice. Dr. Yang will provide pathology services for patient diagnosis at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center.
“I look forward to contributing to Conemaugh Health System,” says Dr. Yang. “I was drawn to Pathology as a specialty because of the ability to help other physicians provide accurate diagnosis for patient care and great opportunity to apply cutting-edge technology to therognostic application for precise medicine, such as advanced genomic pathology.”
Dr. Yang earned his medical degree at Weifang Medical College in Weifang, China. He completed an Anatomic Pathology residency at West China University of Medical Science, and his doctorate at the Department of Anatomy & Institution of Molecular Biology at The University of Hong Kong.
Dr. Yang was Chief Resident for Conemaugh Memorial’s Pathology department, and completed an elective rotation at the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). He completed a Clinical Fellowship of Cytopathology and was a consecutive Clinical Fellow / Instructor in Molecular Anatomic Pathology, both at the UPMC.
Prior to returning to Conemaugh, Dr. Yang was an Assistant Professor at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC) for nearly four years. He established a Molecular Diagnostic Lab, including a NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing) platform at UCMC Pathology Department while he served as a General Surgical Pathologist. Dr. Yang also has completed clinical research regarding Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and solid tumor molecular testing, including thyroid molecular study. He will continue to make more effort of these projects at Conemaugh Memorial.
“Johnstown is a very friendly town,” says Dr. Yang. “I completed my residency here and we have met wonderful people which creates a family feeling.” When not practicing medicine, Dr. Yang enjoys spending time with his wife and daughters, including playing and watching tennis together.
