The American College of Cardiology (ACC) has recognized Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center for demonstrating excellence in cardiovascular care and an unwavering commitment to a comprehensive, high-quality culture. The hospital was recently awarded the HeartCARE Center: National Distinction of Excellence designation based on meeting rigorous accreditation criteria and participating in the ACC’s existing quality improvement programs. Notably, Conemaugh Memorial is the first hospital in the southwestern Pennsylvania region and the fifth hospital in the nation to receive this designation.
Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center and Conemaugh Physicians Group offer comprehensive cardiovascular services close to home for patients, including cardiothoracic surgery, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), mitral valve repair, cardiac catheterization, vascular services, diagnostic services and cardiac rehabilitation.
“We are very proud of our dedicated physicians, providers, staff and our patients for working together to earn HeartCARE Center designation,” said Dr. Susan Williams, chief medical officer of Conemaugh Health System. “It is a tremendously meaningful stamp of approval for our cardiovascular service line, and it has been a true team effort to reach this important milestone. We are proud to be advancing our mission of Making Communities Healthier through our comprehensive cardiovascular program and are honored to receive this designation.”
Hospitals and health systems that have earned the ACC HeartCARE Center designation have met a specific set of criteria, including the achievement of at least two ACC Accreditation Services cardiac-specific designations, as well as sustained superior outcomes in the National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR) and targeted quality improvement campaigns. These quality initiatives, including the Patient Navigator Program: Focus MI, are designed to help hospitals and institutions close gaps in guideline-based care.
“Conemaugh Memorial has demonstrated its commitment to providing Johnstown and surrounding communities with excellent heart care,” said Phillip D. Levy, MD, FACC, chair of the ACC Accreditation Management Board. “ACC Accreditation Services is proud to award Conemaugh Memorial with the HeartCARE Center designation.”
Hospitals receiving the HeartCARE Center designation from the ACC have demonstrated their commitment to consistent, high-quality cardiovascular care through comprehensive process improvement, disease and procedure-specific accreditation, professional excellence and community engagement. Conemaugh Memorial has proven to be a forward-thinking institution with goals to advance the cause of sustainable quality improvement.
“Our team works diligently to provide the best possible cardiovascular care for each patient,” said Dr. Savas Mavridis, Conemaugh Physician Group cardiothoracic surgeon and medical director of Cardiovascular Services at Conemaugh Memorial. “Patients do not need to travel out of the area for high-quality heart care when they need it most and can rest assured that they are in exceptional hands at Conemaugh Memorial. Receiving this designation is a true testament to the unmatched level of care and service we provide.”
Conemaugh Memorial’s cardiovascular service line also recently received recognition from the American Heart Association, including the Get With the Guidelines – Heart Failure Gold Quality Achievement Award; Get With the Guidelines – Resuscitation Bronze Quality Achievement Award for the Adult Patient Population; and 2018 Mission: Lifeline STEMI Receiving Center Bronze Recognition Award.
