Conemaugh Health System to Begin Vaccinations for Children Ages 12 & Older

May 17, 2021

This week, the Conemaugh Health System will begin scheduling vaccinations for children ages 12 and older at the Conemaugh East Hills Outpatient Center (1450 Scalp Avenue, Johnstown) on Wednesdays between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. The Pfizer vaccine has emergency use authorization from the Food and Drug Administration for individuals ages 12 and older and is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. An adult with the capacity to make medical decisions on behalf of the minor (ages 12-17) must be present for both doses of the vaccination.

“Studies have found that the COVID-19 vaccine is highly-effective in protecting against symptomatic disease and does not present any major safety concerns for children and adolescents 12 and older,” said Elizabeth Dunmore, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Conemaugh Health System. “Parents with concerns about vaccinating their children are encouraged to talk to their family doctor, pediatrician, or primary care physician for further guidance.”
