March 27, 2018

Conemaugh Health System supports National Diabetes Alert Day on Tuesday, March 27, and reminds community members of the importance of being screening for diabetes.

  • Diabetes affects more than 29 million Americans, including more than 78,000 Pennsylvanians who are diagnosed with the disease each year.
  • It is also estimated that one in every four individuals with diabetes is unaware that they have the disease.
  • More than 3.5 million adults in Pennsylvania have pre-diabetes
  • More than 18,000 new cases of type 1 diabetes are estimated to be diagnosed among United Stated youth younger than 20 years of age.

Prevention and early diagnosis is vital to the health of each patient and stopping the full onset of diabetes. Incremental lifestyle changes, such as a healthy diet and exercise, will improve the condition for most people.
