Conemaugh Health System Earns Three Year CT Scan Accreditation from American College of Radiology

July 28, 2021

The Conemaugh East Hills Outpatient Center, located in Johnstown, was awarded a three-year term of accreditation in computed tomography (CT) after a review was performed by The American College of Radiology (ACR). CT scans are crucial to the diagnosis of a patient, as it can detect fractures, tumors, heart disease, or many other serious internal injuries.

Experts of CT scans and medical imaging, such as board certified physicians and medical physicists evaluate the facility on their image quality and patient safety. The award only goes to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review. Of the criteria evaluated by the ACR, image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, and quality control procedures are the most assessed in the report.

“A CT scan is very beneficial to the diagnosis and prognosis of many health conditions. Early and proper scans can catch tumors, internal bleeding, and fractures before they become serious,” said Cliff Dull, Director of Radiology. “As a computed tomography accredited facility, I am confident our team is providing the best level of imaging performance while exposing patients to the lowest radiation dose possible.”

Founded in 1924, the ACR is a professional medical society committed to serving patients and society by authorizing radiology professionals to advance the practice, science, and professions of radiological care. The college serves more than 37,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of proper health care services.
