Conemaugh Health System Announces Mercy Award Winners

Conemaugh Health System is excited and proud to announce local Mercy Award winners for 2018. These employees have met the criteria for LifePoint’s High Five Guiding Principles. All Conemaugh winners traveled to Nashville, Tennessee to be recognized among all LifePoint hospitals.

Two of Conemaugh’s winners were finalists to be named the Company-Wide Mercy Award LifePoint Winner out of all LifePoint hospitals.

The LifePoint Mercy Award was created to honor the late Scott Mercy, LifePoint’s founding chairman and CEO. This special award recognizes the extraordinary people in the company who are cultivating caring and who inspire the pursuit of the company’s mission of Making Communities Healthier.

Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center Winner – Nancy Kozuch     * company-wide finalist

Nancy Kozuch was the RN Care Manager of the Patient Care Resource Center (PCRC) until her recent retirement from Conemaugh. She graduated from the Conemaugh School of Nursing and was employed at Conemaugh for more than 40 years. At the PCRC, Nancy helped to reduce readmission rates by working to keep patients healthy after discharge from the hospital. She utilized her own personal experiences to relate to patients and provide hope and encouragement. Outside of work, Nancy is active in the community as a volunteer for Somerset County’s American Cancer Society Daffodil Day Campaign and Birthright. She volunteers at her church and cleans the cathedral. Nancy is always the first to offer help to anyone in need. She is highly respected as has passion for all she does.

Conemaugh Meyersdale Medical Center Winner – Jessica Hemming

Jessica is a Manager for Patient Access at Conemaugh Meyersdale. She is described as a wonderful, caring, individual that always sees the cup as half full. At work, Jessica utilized her knowledge to assist coworkers during the change to Conemaugh’s new electronic medical record system. She helps cover shifts when needed and is always willing to help others. Jessica is the Co-Chairperson of the Conemaugh Meyersdale Medical Center’s Patient Advisory Council. She continues to further her education while working and staying active. Jessica works in the community for local school sports teams and assists with concessions. She is active in her church where she plays the piano.

Conemaugh Miners Medical Center Winner – Pauline Bender

Pauline is the Nurse Manager of Surgical Services at Conemaugh Miners, and is one of the longest employed nurses at the facility. She currently manages the Operating Room and Recovery Room as well as the Short Procedure Unit, Wound Clinic, and Central Sterile Supply. Pauline adapts quickly to change and assists other staff as needed. She never complains, is a very thoughtful manager and treats staff with respect and dignity. In the community, Pauline is active in her church activities and is well-known and respected.

Conemaugh Nason Medical Center Winner – Shaina Musselman       * company-wide finalist

Shaina is a Radiology / CT Tech in the Radiology Department. She is full of knowledge and always eager to lend a helping hand when needed. She shows compassion and caring for patients on a daily basis, and always has the patient’s best interest in mind. In the community, Shaina is a gymnastics coach and vice president of the parent’s association. She is a member of the Roaring Spring Fire Company and also involved in the “Easter for Eli” event which collects Easter basket and delivers to children in local hospitals.
