Conemaugh Cardiac Rehabilitation Receives National Certification

December 8, 2015

Conemaugh Health System is proud to announce the recertification of its Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Program by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).

The certification recognizes Conemaugh’s program for its commitment to improving the quality of life for cardiac patients by enhancing standards of care. AACVPR certified programs are recognized as leaders in the field of cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation because they offer the most advanced practices available.

“Cardiac Rehabilitation is a program we are very proud of,” says Steve Tucker, Chief Executive Officer of the Conemaugh Health System’s hospital division and President of Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. “This program began in 1989 and in that time has helped thousands of cardiac patients recover and improve their quality of life through exercise, education, counseling and support for both the patient and their families.”

“We conduct more than 24-thousand education and exercise sessions a year,” says program manager Michelle George, RN, BSN. “Each program is structured specifically for the individual patient’s needs and goals with ongoing communication between the Cardiac Rehab team and physicians.”

To achieve certification, Conemaugh’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program participated in an application process that requires extensive documentation of the program’s practices. AACVPR program certification is the only peer-review accreditation process designed to review individual programs for adherence to standards and guidelines developed and published by AACVPR and other professional societies. AACVPR program certification is valid for three years.

Conemaugh’s Cardiac Rehab nursing staff is composed of RNs and a nurse aide with each nurse having over 20 years experience in cardiovascular nursing. In addition to cardiac rehabilitation, the department offers cardiac prevention, peripheral artery disease program and tobacco cessation. Conemaugh Memorial’s Cardiac Rehab program has been certified since 2000.
