The Conemaugh Advanced Wound Center has been recognized with the Center of Excellence award, a national designation for clinical excellence. The award is presented by Healogics, the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services.
Conemaugh achieved outstanding clinical outcomes for twelve consecutive months, including patient satisfaction higher than 92 percent, and a minimum wound healing rate of at least 91 percent within 30 median days to heal. There were 413 Centers in the United States eligible for the Center of Excellence award, but only 29 achieved the honor, including Conemaugh Memorial.
Last year, Conemaugh’s Wound Center earned the Center of Distinction designation. This year’s Center of Excellence designation means the Center performed above clinical excellence for two consecutive years.
“The team at the Advanced Wound Center provides assistance for patients to heal from chronic wounds that can greatly impact their lives,” said Paul Rollins, MD, Medical Director of the Center. “Their sincere care and dedication is seen in the healing results our patients achieve, and the ability to return to daily activities. We are so proud of the work we do and the care we provide for our patients.”
Additional providers caring for wound patients include Kamran Shayesteh, DO, Stanley Zagorski, MD, Maureen Ratchford, DPM, Kristin Strannigan, DPM, Corrin Fesko, CRNP, and Patricia Eagleson, CRNP.
The Conemaugh Advanced Wound Center offers highly specialized wound care to patients suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections, simple burns, traumatic wounds, complicated post-surgical wounds, and other chronic wounds which have not healed in a reasonable amount of time. Advanced treatments includes negative pressure wound therapy, bio-engineered skin substitutes, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, biological and biosynthetic dressings, and growth factor therapies.
“Treating wounds is an important step to helping a patient maintain overall health and wellness,” says Tim Miller, Program Director of the Advanced Wound Center. “Benefits of treatment include less pain at the wound site during healing, few complications which reduce the need for future hospitalization, reduced risk of related medical problems, and renewed patient confidence and increased quality of life.”
The patient care team at Conemaugh includes specialty physicians, wound specialists, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, nurse aides, nurse practitioners, nutritionists, lymphedema specialists, and diabetic educators.
The Conemaugh Advanced Wound Center is located at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center’s Lee Campus on Main Street in Johnstown. The Center is a member of the Healogics network of nearly 700 wound care centers and provides access to benchmarking data and proven experience for treatment.
The Center opened in May 2000. This year the team celebrates its 19th anniversary.
