Board certified vascular surgeon Dr. John Gray has officially joined the team at Conemaugh Physician Group – Vascular Surgery. Dr. Gray has been practicing at Conemaugh for several months on a temporary basis. He says the friendly staff and patients are refreshing and he is grateful for the opportunity to accept a permanent position.
“I think people here sometimes take for granted what a great place this is to practice medicine,” says Dr. Gray, who grew up in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. “Everyone at Conemaugh is so friendly and helpful and the patients are very grateful for the care we provide. My experience here as a locums physician has been great and I decided to join the team. There is a need for more vascular surgeons and I want to help support that need and grow the program.”
Dr. Gray comes to Conemaugh from Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of Westminster College in Missouri and the University of Missouri Graduate School. He received his Medical Doctorate with honors at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Dr. Gray completed his residency training in General Surgery at University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. He then completed a Research Fellowship in Gastrointestinal Disease before moving to Loyola University Medical Center for a Vascular Surgery Research Fellowship. That was followed by a Peripheral Vascular Fellowship also at Loyola University Medical Center.
Being a physician is a bit of a family affair for Dr. Gray. His maternal great grandfather was a family practice physician and his maternal grandfather and father were both surgeons. In addition, he has two brothers who are physicians and all three of his children, two daughters and a son, are pursuing medical careers.
Dr. Gray provides a number of inpatient and outpatient procedures including procedures to repair aneurysms of the thoracic aorta, abdominal aorta, iliac arteries, visceral arteries and peripheral arteries, procedures to treat thoracic outlet syndrome and treatment of leg swelling (edema), as well as open and endovascular, venous procedures, dialysis access and treatment for carotid disease.
Board certified vascular surgeon Dr. Stephen Lalka has joined the team at Conemaugh Physician Group - Vascular Surgery. Dr. Lalka has 29 years of vascular surgery experience and comes to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center from the Sanger Heart and Vascular Institute at Carolinas HealthCare System in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Dr. Lalka is a graduate of Houghton College in New York and the University of Rochester School of Medicine. He completed his surgery internship and residency at Case Western Reserve University Hospitals in Cleveland, and research and clinical vascular surgery fellowships at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center in Tucson, Arizona.
In addition to his medical practice, Dr. Lalka held several academic positions including Professor of Surgery at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and Indiana University School of Medicine, and Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery at Carolinas HealthCare System.
Dr. Lalka specializes in comprehensive vascular care for both inpatients and outpatients including procedures to repair aneurysms of the thoracic aorta, abdominal aorta, iliac arteries, visceral arteries and peripheral arteries, procedures to treat thoracic outlet syndrome and treatment of leg swelling (edema), as well as open and endovascular, venous procedures, dialysis access, and treatment for carotid disease.
