Pathology residents at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center have outperformed 90% of programs on a national exam for the second consecutive year. The American Society for Clinical Pathology Resident In-Service Examination (RISE) is administered annually to all 145 pathology residency programs in the United States.
The examination is used to assess and track resident training progress and medical knowledge acquired throughout the program. It also assists Program Directors in evaluating the training program curriculum.
“We are a small community hospital-based program which makes our program unique,” says Dr. Curtis Goldblatt, Pathology Residency Director, “The vast majority of pathology residency programs in the nation are large and university-based. For our residents to outperform 90% of these programs is quite impressive.”
The Pathology Residency Program at Conemaugh Memorial is a four-year fully accredited program consisting of combined training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. The program has been in place for more than 40 years and combines the sophistication of a university pathology experience with the service orientation of a community-based hospital.
Residents spend four years in the study of Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology disciplines with training primarily at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. University based affiliate rotations include Pediatric Pathology, Dermatopathology, Renal Pathology / Electron Microscopy, Cytogenetics, Molecular Diagnostics, Transplant and Histocompatability.
