Jeanne Spencer, MD, Family Medicine Residency Director, Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, was elected Chair of the Assembly of Residency Directors & Department Chairs of the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians (PAFD). She will serve a two-year term leading academic Family Medicine and will serve on the PAFD Board of Directors.

A unique coalition of 38 academic medical institutions, the PAFP Assembly supports residency programs and medical school leaders to work together to strengthen the family medicine workforce pipeline and ultimately to ensure the supply of family physicians needed to meet the primary healthcare needs of all Pennsylvanians. The PAFP supports family medicine training through advocacy and education. The PAFP represents nearly 4,000 family physicians, residents and medical student members in Pennsylvania, and is the state component chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP).

Family Medicine Physicians care for patients and their families throughout the entire span of life, from infancy to older adulthood. Through regular checkups and screenings they help patients prevent illness, manage chronic conditions and help understand the role that proper nutrition, exercise, and balance play in a long, healthy life. Family physicians help coordinate referrals and work closely with the specialist to ensure that every patient gets the best care possible.

Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center offers a highly accredited Family Practice Residency Program. Family Practice Residents have the ability to gain exceptional inpatient and outpatient experiences to prepare them for their future career in the health care field. Conemaugh Memorial’s location serves a diverse patient population with a broad span of services provided to the residents including a Level 1 Trauma Center and a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This dually accredited program creates a foundation for residents to obtain certifications from the American Osteopathic Board of Family Practice and the American Board of Family Medicine.
