Penumetsa MD

Srikanth Penumetsa, MRCP, MD, is joining Conemaugh Physician Group – Cardiology. An interventional cardiologist, Dr. Penumetsa is board certified in Cardiology, Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology and Internal Medicine.

A graduate of the Andhra Medical College, NTR University of health sciences in India, Dr. Penumetsa received his MRCP from The Royal College of Physicians in the United Kingdom. He then graduated from the Baystate Medical Center, TUFTS University where he also completed Fellowship training in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology and received the Outstanding Fellow of the Year award.

Dr. Penumetsa says he chose to specialize in cardiology because of the many fascinating areas of the field. “There are so many different sub-specialties available through cardiology; each one of them drew my attention. Coronary artery disease is a major killer and being an interventional cardiologist gives me the opportunity to positively impact patients’ health.”

“I am excited to be here at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center,” says Dr. Penumetsa. “Conemaugh Physician Group – Cardiology is an excellent group of physicians and I am very impressed with the Cardiac Catheterization Lab staff and facilities.”

Dr. Penumetsa is experienced in providing radial artery access for patients undergoing cardiac catheterization to diagnose and treat arterial disease. “Using the radial artery, in the wrist, instead of the femoral artery, in the groin, works really well for many patients,” says Dr. Penumetsa. “Going through the wrist versus the groin cuts down on bleeding and complications. It is also more comfortable and convenient for patients as they do not have to lie still for four to six hours after the procedure.”

Dr. Penumetsa’s wife is also a physician and is currently doing an Internal Medicine Residency program at Conemaugh Memorial. “We are both very excited about being here and settling down with our family in this friendly community.”

In addition to seeing patients at Conemaugh Memorial’s Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Dr. Penumetsa will also see patients at his office at the Conemaugh Medical Park, One Tech Park Drive, Johnstown. Patients wanting more information or to schedule an appointment may call 814-475-8600.
