Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center Pediatric patients have another reason to smile during their inpatient stay. In addition to receiving quality care by experienced physicians and staff, many will now receive a pillowcase. Barbara Marker recently made a generous donation of more than 30 handmade pillowcases for patients to use while in the hospital and to take home when discharged.

Marker began creating pillowcases after seeing the idea in a quilting magazine that organizes a challenge to donate one million pillowcases for children in hospitals across the country. Instead of sending the pillowcases to the organization for distribution, she decided to give them directly to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center’s Pediatric Department.

“I was in the hospital several times during my childhood,” says Marker. “I hope the pillowcases will brighten the child’s day and help make their stay a little easier.”

Marker presented the pillowcases to Dolly Gindlesperger, Nurse Manager of Conemaugh Memorial’s Pediatric and Women Services. Marker intends to continue her donations in the future, adding hospice patients to her donation list.
