Let the planting begin! For the past three years the Christian Home of Johnstown has been cultivating green thumbs in Johnstown’s 8th Ward neighborhood on land owned by the Conemaugh Health System. Today those gardens remain but now the land officially belongs to the Christian Home.
“Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center is proud to call the 8th Ward section of Johnstown our neighborhood. There are many great people, businesses and organizations who also call this area home and today we are excited about this opportunity to share with our neighbors,” said Scott Becker, Conemaugh Health System’s Chief Executive Officer. “We are pleased to be able to donate this land to the Christian Home so they can continue to make great things happen.”
The land was officially turned over during a brief, informal gathering that included officials from Conemaugh and Duke LifePoint Healthcare. “We are energized by some of the changes coming to the Conemaugh Health System, particularly our board’s recent selection of Duke LifePoint Healthcare as our strategic partner,” added Becker. “Since signing a Letter of Intent in March, we have been in a period of due diligence and I can assure you this process has made us even more sure and more enthused about our decision.”
William Carpenter, Chairman and CEO of LifePoint Hospitals and Dr. Harry Phillips, Professor of Medicine, Chief Medical Officer, Network Services, and Associate Director of the Duke Heart Center accompanied Becker at the land donation presentation.
“Partnerships like the one we are seeking with Conemaugh, enable hospitals to strengthen and improve healthcare delivery while at the same time providing the clinical, quality and operational resources needed to grow and prosper,” said Dr. Harry Phillips. “All of this, we believe, will only add to the overall well being of community’s like this one here in Johnstown’s 8th Ward.”
“The Christian Home of Johnstown’s Mission Statement includes the idea of inspiring hope. We like that idea and hope that our upcoming partnership also inspires hope,” said William Carpenter. “Our goal is to grow and strengthen Conemaugh Health System and this community. This partnership has great potential to contribute significantly to the health and prosperity of this region.”
In addition to the land donation, Conemaugh Health System announced plans to donate the money needed for a rain barrel to help neighbors more easily water the crops.
