Conemaugh Health System and the Johnstown Tomahawks will host Face Off Against Cancer weekend during home games on Friday, October 25 and Saturday, October 26 at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena. Proceeds from the event will benefit local cancer patients through the Conemaugh Health Foundation Cancer Fund.

Friday, October 25 is "Pink at the Rink" in recognition and support of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Conemaugh Health System's Linked in Pink campaign. All in attendance are encouraged to wear pink to the game. Pink rally towels will be given to the first 500 fans.

"The best protection from breast cancer is early detection," says April Behory, Director of Women and Child Services at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. "Mammogram screenings are an essential part of a woman's yearly health exams after the age of 40. Unfortunately, many women in our area are still not having an annual mammogram. During this event, we hope to continue our education for women about the importance of self exams and mammography, as well as help men encourage the women in their lives to have this potentially life-saving screening."

Conemaugh Health System offers six digital mammography locations including Conemaugh Memorial Main & Lee campuses, Conemaugh Miners Medical Center, Conemaugh Meyersdale Medical Center, Conemaugh Richland and Conemaugh Ebensburg. To schedule an appointment, call (814) 534-4444.

Saturday, October 26 is "Hope Support Cure", a Conemaugh Health System campaign in support of all cancers. Ice scrapers will be given to the first 700 fans. Ribbons will be available at Saturday's game, free of charge, for fans to wear in support of the fight against cancer. Any fan wishing to reserve a ribbon in advance can submit a request at www.conemaugh.org/FaceOffAgainstCancer. White ribbons will be distributed in memory of a loved one lost to cancer, while lavender will be distributed for current fighters, survivors and supporters.

Educational displays and prevention tips will be available both nights. Linked in Pink and Hope Support Cure apparel will be available for sale, along with pink and lavender ribbon-shaped cookies. Fans are invited to sign the "Fight Like a Tomahawk!" banners that will be displayed at the Conemaugh Cancer Care Center following Saturday's game as encouragement for cancer patients and families. Additional activities include 50/50, Cluck-A-Puck and entry to win gift baskets.

"The funds raised during this event stay within our community," says Susan Mann, President, Conemaugh Health Foundation. "Every dollar that we raise will come back to Conemaugh Memorial to assist the Cancer Care Center with expenses for meals, transportation, screenings and other necessities of our cancer patients."

"We're excited to partner with Conemaugh Health System for this important event," says Whitney Pappas, Johnstown Tomahawks Game-Day Operations and Community Relations Manager. "Cancer affects everyone -- patients, families, friends and communities. We hope for a great crowd at the games to show our unity in the fight against cancer."
