Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center has been named a 2012 recipient of the Forsythe Foundation through the PNC Charitable Trust Grant Review Committee. The $15,000 grant will benefit the 2013 Youth Trauma Prevention Program through the Conemaugh Health Foundation and Conemaugh Memorial.

In 2011, Conemaugh Memorial’s Level I Trauma Resource Center treated 141 pediatric trauma patients, 53 ATV accident victims, 36 teens involved in motor vehicle accidents, 34 penetrating injuring, 15 farming injuries and 14 sports injuries. Prevention of these traumas is key to saving lives.

“The safety of our children is paramount,” says Deborah Price, Conemaugh Health Foundation. “If we can prevent a traumatic injury from occurring – whether from a sports related or recreational event – then we are doing our job. By using a team approach and partnering with community efforts, we hope to provide each and every school within our service area the benefits of our combined expertise.”

Funds from this grant will bring an enrollment price reduction for Conemaugh’s Car Control Clinic for new drivers, provide funding for a Coaches Clinic, an ATV course, a Gun Safety Course, a Farm Safety Course and a Concussion Clinic. “From education through hands on training, we intend to reduce the incidence of traumatic injury to our children,” says Price.

The PNC Charitable Trust Grant Review Committee distributes grants from trusts to non-profit organizations that demonstrate a capacity and commitment to charitable service and enhance the quality of life for people and their communities.

In addition to this grant, the 5th Annual Conemaugh Health Foundation Chef Auction also benefited Conemaugh’s Trauma Prevention Program. This year, the Auction raised $48,000 for pediatric and teenage trauma prevention programs.
