The 5th Annual Conemaugh Health Foundation “Our Community, Our Children” Chef Auction was held Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at the Frank J. Pasquerilla Conference Center. This milestone year raised $48,000 for pediatric and teenage trauma and surgical patients at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center.

This tremendous achievement brings the five-year Chef Auction fundraising total to $150,000 for Conemaugh Memorial patients. Proceeds from past years have provided the opportunity for Pediatric Unit renovations including a new family waiting lounge, wall murals, new televisions, window treatments, wardrobe cabinets and lighting. RICN equipment improvements include a high-tech “Giraffe” neonatal isolette, phototherapy lights, Air Oxygen blenders, Mammaroos, syringe pumps and a breast milk freezer.

Proceeds from this year’s event will be used toward pediatric and teenage trauma prevention.  In 2011, Conemaugh Memorial’s Level I Trauma Center treated 141 pediatric trauma patients, 53 ATV accident victims, 36 teens involved in motor vehicle accidents, 34 penetrating injuries, 15 farming injuries and 14 sports injuries. Funds will be focused toward courses offered at Conemaugh Health System including the Car Control Clinic for new drivers, concussion clinics, and prevention programs for gun, ATV and farm safety. Part of the proceeds will be used toward a new pre and post-op area for pediatric surgical outpatients.

The Our Community, Our Children Chef Auction was created by Amanda Artim in 2007 after her son, Austin, spent a few days at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center’s Pediatrics Unit. In gratitude of the care given to her son, Artim partnered with the Conemaugh Health Foundation to raise funds for renovations to help lift the spirits of children who spend time in the unit.

“We are so very grateful to Amanda and to all those who have supported this event, especially the restaurants and chefs, the sponsors and donors who bid on the packages,” says Susan Mann, President of the Conemaugh Health Foundation. “It is amazing to see what great things can happen from just one person’s vision. Amanda’s desire to “pay it forward” has touched so many young lives.”

“I thank all of the supporters that have not only supported me in this journey, but what now has become a dream come true,” says Amanda Artim, Founder and Chairperson of the CHF Chef Auction. “To reach milestones like we have - five years strong, $150,000, and a sell-out crowd this year - is remarkable.  Thank you to everyone who has supported not only this event, but the children of our community.”
