US News & World Report has released the annual recognitions of “Best Nursing Homes for 2012” and Conemaugh Memorial’s Transitional Care Unit located at the Lee Campus has been included in the list of 5 Star Ranked Facilities.
US News & World Report says the Best Nursing Home ratings offer important guidance to families and healthcare providers caring for people in need of a nursing home. Of the more than 15,500 nursing homes across the country, only 39 made the Honor Roll.
The 30 bed Transitional Care Unit (TCU) at Conemaugh Memorial’s Lee Campus is the only unit of its kind in the region. In the TCU, residents receive the care they need to make the transition from the hospital back to their home.
This skilled facility offers short-term care for those recovering from surgery, joint replacement, fractures, stroke or other illness or injuries. Services offered at the TCU include: Physical, Occupational or Speech Therapy; IV Therapy; Cardio and Respiratory Management; Dialysis and Pain Management.
U.S. News’s evaluation of nursing homes is based on data from Nursing Home Compare, a consumer website run by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The government agency sets and enforces standards for nursing homes (defined as facilities or portions of facilities enrolled in Medicare or Medicaid that provide 24-hour nursing care and other medical services).Homes earn an overall rating of one to five stars, as well as up to five stars in each of three underlying categories: health inspections, nurse staffing, and quality of care.
U.S. News updates each nursing home’s ratings data quarterly. To earn a place on the 2012 Honor Roll, a home had to receive perfect five-star ratings in 2011 in all categories for all four quarters.
