Tests of the digestive tract are ordered by your doctor and performed in the Gastrointestinal (GI) Laboratory. Your doctor will schedule the procedure and will call you with your appointment time. Common GI tests include colonoscopies, upper endoscopy tests to inspect the esophagus and stomach areas, ph studies and 24-hour monitoring. Capsule endoscopy is also performed. During the procedure, a patient swallows a vitamin-sized pill with a camera inside. As the pill travels painlessly through the GI tract, the camera transmits images of the small intestine and esophagus so that your doctor can make a proper diagnosis. These and other tests help determine the cause of swallowing problems, abdominal pain, reflux issues or other digestive disorders. Your doctor will give you detailed instructions to help you prepare for your test. If you have any questions about the procedure, please contact your doctor or call us at the number listed above.
