Physician Residency Programs at Memorial Medical Center

Transitional-Year Residency Overview

Because of its size, geographic reach and depth of services, Memorial Medical Center (MMC) serves a very diverse patient population. Attracting patients across six counties, it includes a Level I trauma center, Level III neonatal intensive care unit, one of the Top 100 heart programs in the country, including 24/7 cardiac catheterizations and open heart surgery, and nationally recognized orthopedic services.

This is a true “year of medicine,” as residents are given the opportunity to choose four electives from multiple subspecialties.  As a teaching hospital, MMC offers transitional-year residents the opportunity to instruct medical students, allowing them to test their knowledge and understanding of general principles, strengthen communication and presentation skills, and reinforce lessons learned from daily interactions with faculty, staff and patients.  Transitional-year residents also work with residents from seven other programs at MMC, collectively broadening their scope and expanding their educational opportunities.
