Welcome to the Family Medicine Residency Program at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center (MMC). Established in 1971, it was one of the first family medicine residencies in the country. Since then, more than 200 family physicians have graduated from the program, many of whom have stayed in our area to serve the local community and further their careers.
Our long tradition means that family medicine is well respected throughout Conemaugh Health System. Family physicians care for the most complicated patients, often in consultation with our many specialists. We are the captains of the ship, even for the most challenging cases.
Our residents follow a personal panel of patients. They treat them through all stages of outpatient and inpatient care, from routine office visits to complex hospital stays. This level of personal interaction allows patients to bond with their personal physicians. They want to see their doctor - the resident – and they learn to trust the resident’s expertise. All of this occurs under the watchful eye and supervision of the attending physicians.
Memorial Medical Center is home to several residencies, including emergency medicine, internal medicine and surgery. In some places, this may be called being opposed, but here we are far from it. Instead, our residents enjoy friendly collaboration with residents in other disciplines and are valuable resources to each other especially when on-call. More residents means having more colleagues in the community and more opportunities for training, such as our state-of-the-art patient simulator, Level I Regional Resource Trauma Center and Level III neonatal intensive care unit. Memorial Medical Center has the opportunities of a tertiary care hospital combined with the hometown friendliness of a community hospital where family physicians manage their own patients.
