Because of its size, geographic reach and depth of services, Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center serves a very diverse patient population. Attracting patients across five counties, its services include a Level I trauma center and a Level III neonatal intensive care unit with 24/7 cardiac catheterizations and open heart surgery, and nationally recognized neurosurgery, orthopedic, vascular, pulmonary, critical care and maternity services.
For the entering 2014 class, the Internal Medicine Residency is offering four preliminary medicine position in addition to the seven categorical positions. Also, our program is now dually accredited with the AOA and ACGME.
Faculty members of this program include primary care physicians and specialists, all of whom serve as mentors to residents, offering guidance and support for professional and personal issues whenever needed. To help residents strengthen their clinical skills, Conemaugh Memorial conducts a mini-CEX multiple times a year. This abbreviated exam gives our faculty the opportunity to observe the clinical aptitude, attitudes and behaviors of each resident. Immediate feedback allows faculty members and residents to identify areas of strength, as well as to develop a strategy to improve the areas that need further improvement.
Internal Medicine residents gain exceptional inpatient and outpatient experiences that prepare them for careers in primary care or for additional specialty training. The three-year program also prepares residents to sit for the American Board of Internal Medicine Examination.
