Chief Medical Officer, Conemaugh Physician Group

Effective February 1, 2010, William M. Carney, MD, General Surgeon, Conemaugh Valley Surgeons, assumed the role of Chief Medical Officer Conemaugh Physician Group (CPG.) 

Formerly called Conemaugh Health Initiatives, physician group leaders at Conemaugh Health System recently changed the name to Conemaugh Physician Group to more accurately reflect the identity of the growing physician-led organization, which now includes more than 100 primary care physicians and specialists with practices in Cambria, Somerset, Westmoreland and Bedford counties. 

This latest appointment is one of many that Dr. Carney, who is board certified in general surgery, has held at Memorial over the past 20 years. He has served on a number of committees and held several hospital leadership positions including president of the medical staff and as a member of the Conemaugh Health System Board of Directors. In addition to his current role as chairman of MMC’s Division of General Surgery, Dr. Carney also sees patients at Norcam and Ebensburg Care Center. 

Dr. Carney received his medical doctorate from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia 1988 and completed his General Surgery residency at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center.
