Over 42,000 cardiac catheterizations have been performed at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center.
During cardiac catheterization, patients are injected with a dye that gives our physicians a clear view of how blood flows to the heart. Problem areas are detected and may be resolved immediately through the use of a non-surgical interventional procedure like a rotational atherectomy or a balloon angioplasty to improve blood flow to the heart. If additional treatment is needed, the catheterization assists physicians in confirming the need for surgery.
Procedures typically last less than an hour and patients are usually home the same day.
Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center houses three, state-of-the-art digital catheterization laboratories. The laboratories are staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Sophisticated peripheral capabilities are also available to diagnose other conditions, including those related to diabetes, kidney disease or vascular disease.
