The Pharmacy Department at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center includes 35 pharmacists, more than 30 pharmacy technicians, all of whom are CPhT certified, and other support personnel. The Department is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and handles all hospital pharmacy needs. The Department is fully automated and has recently upgraded to the latest in robust order entry system technology with McKesson Robot Rx.

As a respected teaching hospital, Memorial is home to a pharmacy residency program, six physician residency programs, an AOA internship program, more than 200 annual medical student rotations, a nursing school and five allied health programs. As a result, pharmacists who want to teach have extensive opportunities to work with faculty to educate health care providers about the latest pharmaceutical developments, research and trends.
As part of its expansion efforts, the Department is decentralizing services so that pharmacists who are interested in direct patient care can be based on patient care units and in specific departments, including the Level I Regional Resource Trauma Center, Level III Regional Intensive Care Nursery and Intensive Care Unit. Similarly, pharmacists who prefer Department-based responsibilities can remain at the central office to perform vital services.
The 24-hour nature of hospital-based pharmacies means that our pharmacists have flexible scheduling opportunities that can accommodate today’s busy personal and family commitments. All efforts are made to balance schedules so that every team member has the time to honor family, personal and work responsibilities.
