Our education programs are recognized by the American Diabetes Association and are led by Certified Diabetes Educators, including registered nurses, dietitians and other medical professionals.

Diabetes Self Management Education Classes
This group program is for those who have been recently diagnosed with diabetes or those with diabetes who need up-to-date information to on how to manage their diabetes.

The program is led by a Certified Diabetes Educator and Registered Dietitian, and features easy-to-understand information about diabetes, nutrition, blood sugar monitoring, medications and exercise.  Classes meet monthly and are held during the day or evening – making it convenient and accessible. Classes are held at the Institute, located on the first floor on the Lee Campus of Memorial Medical Center, 320 Main Street, Johnstown.

A physician’s order is required to participate. While most insurance plans cover program costs, it’s best to check with your provider before classes begin.

One-to-One Education
Individuals, including pregnant women with diabetes or those who have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes, can meet one-on-one with a Certified Diabetes Educator and/or Registered Dietitian to learn more about:

  • Meal planning
  • Blood glucose monitoring
  • Pump training
  • Insulin instruction
