Located in southwestern Pennsylvania, Meyersdale is fast becoming a mecca for bicyclists and hikers from across the mid-Atlantic United States. Just two hours from Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., its 50-mile Allegheny Highlands Trail is attracting visitors who want to take in scenic vistas offered up by the former Western Maryland Railroad.

Plentiful outdoor recreational opportunities include whitewater rafting, boating, trout fishing, skiing and hunting.  This microboom in ecotourism is having a positive impact on Meyersdale historic downtown, a business district that in 2006 alone welcomed six new businesses and a museum.
