As soon as you've been scheduled for surgery, you'll be referred to Step into Joint AdVentures, an effective pre-surgery program that will give you and your family a better understanding of how the hip or knee works, and how that relates to your upcoming surgery. Knowing what to expect contributes to shorter hospital stays, fewer complications and faster recoveries.
The class is offered every Wednesday and is required for patients who are scheduled for joint replacement surgery. The physician’s office secretary will schedule it for you four weeks prior to familiarize you with the process and answer any questions you may have.
The class is held in B801 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Please enter through the main hospital entrance on Franklin Street. Turn left in front of the Information Desk and follow the corridor to the next set of elevators. Take an elevator to the 8th floor. When the elevator doors open, Room B801 will be directly in front you.
Please bring a family member or friend to act as your “coach.” The coach’s role will be explained in class. Other class highlights include:
- “Welcome to the Hospital” Video

- Meet the Total Joint Care Team
- Learn Your Breathing Exercises
- Reviewing Your Pre-Operative Exercises
