Because of its size, geographic reach and depth of services, Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center (MMC) serves a very diverse patient population. Attracting patients across five counties, it includes a Level I trauma center and a Level III neonatal intensive care unit, including 24/7 cardiac catheterizations and open heart surgery and nationally recognized programs in orthopedics, neurosurgery, pulmonary care, critical care, general surgery and maternity.
This is a true “year of medicine,” as residents are given the opportunity to choose five electives from multiple subspecialties. As a teaching hospital, Memorial offers transitional-year residents the opportunity to instruct medical students, allowing them to test their knowledge and understanding of general principles, strengthen communication and presentation skills, and reinforce lessons learned from daily interactions with faculty, staff and patients. Transitional-year residents also work with residents from seven other programs at MMC, collectively broadening their scope and expanding their educational opportunities.
