The more than 400 members of Conemaugh’s medical staff include representatives of all general specialties and most subspecialties. More than 85% of the staff voluntarily participates in residency training programs; at least 30 members hold clinical faculty appointments at regional universities. A continuing medical education program offers a new schedule of rounds, seminars, conferences and visiting professorships each month, many of which are approved for continuing medical education credit. Medical staff continuing education programs are open to resident physicians.

Kevin Casey, DO FACEP, FAAEM - Program Director
Dr. Casey has spent nearly a decade as an Emergency Medicine physician. He is a graduate of Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. He is board certified, and certified in advanced cardiac life support, advanced trauma life support, pediatric advanced life support and neonatal advanced life support. Before joining the Conemaugh MMC faculty, he served as Assistant Director of the Emergency Department at St. Vincent Medical Center. In addition, he was a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toledo Medical College. During his tenure there, the Emergency Medicine Residency Class honored him with the Attending Teaching Award, presented to the Emergency Medicine faculty member who best demonstrated excellence in teaching and leadership. Dr. Casey is a member of the Board of Directors of the Ohio Chapter of the American College of EmergencyPhysicians. His research has been published in several journals, including Prehospital and Disaster Medicine and Emergency Medicine Reports.
Daniel Wehner, MD, FACEP - Chairman, Department of Emergency Medicine
Dr. Wehner serves as the chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at MMC. A graduate of Jefferson Medical College, Dr. Wehner completed his residency at Wright State University. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine and is actively involved in working to strengthen his profession. Prior to joining MMC, he was instrumental in the design and implementation of the statewide emergency management system in Delaware and served as past president of the Delaware Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Dr. Wehner currently serves as a member of the Pennsylvania College of Emergency Physicians Board of Directors.
Robert Cooney, MD - Associate Program Director / Core Faculty
Soon after earning his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Dr. Cooney moved to Pittsburgh to begin his residency at Allegheny General Hospital. During his tenure there, his clinical, teaching and leadership skills set the stage for his selection as Chief Resident. As a member of MMC's Emergency Medicine teaching team, he is excited about the program possibilities. "Memorial offers a wide range of pathology for residents," he said. "And as a young program, the Emergency Medicine residency offers the ability to be innovative with teaching strategies."
Gregory Johnston MD - Core Faculty
Dr. Johnston graduated from Eastern Virginia Medical School and completed his emergency medicine training at Madigan Army Medical Center. He has deployed twice in support of Operaton Iraqi Freedom, and previously served as the chief of the emergency medicine and trauma service with the 47th Combat Support Hospital in Iraq. Prior to his most recent deployment to Iraq, he served as the assistant chief of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center department of emergency medicine. His military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal and the Combat Medical Badge. He is ABEM board certified and is an advanced cardiac life support instructor.
Patrick Shannon, DO - Faculty
Board Certified Emergency Medicine Physician and former Memorial Medical Center resident, Dr. Patrick Shannon is the newest addition to the Emergency Residency Program faculty at Memorial. Dr. Shannon, a Blairsville native, is a graduate of Duquesne University and Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed an Osteopathic Internship at Memorial Medical Center in 2003 and an Emergency Medicine Residency at St. Vincent, where he served as Chief Resident in 2005-2006. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Dr. Shannon has also been named Pre-hospital Medical Director. He will oversee all medical direction for Med-Star air medical transport and the DART ground paramedic response trucks. Outside of work Dr. Shannon enjoys spending time with his wife and young son. He is a firefighter, fisherman and outdoor enthusiast.
Brian Wieczorek, MD, FACEP, FAAEM - Core Faculty
After graduating from Penn State College of Medicine at Hershey Medical Center, Dr. Wieczorek completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Geisinger Health System in Danville, PA. He is board certified and currently serves as the Medical Director of Conemaugh MedStar Aeromedical Ambulance. In addition, he is Medical Director for Laurel Valley Ambulance Service. Dr. Wieczorek is a Fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Physicians, a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and a member of the Pennsylvania Chapter American College of Emergency Physicians.
Neil Yoder, DO - Core Faculty
Dr. Yoder has been working in EMS since age 19. He attended Medical School at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his Osteopathic Rotating Internship at MMC and then completed my Emergency Medicine Residency with Fellowship in EMS at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. I have served as Emergency Medical Director of the Blanchard Valley/Hancock County in Ohio. Dr. Yoder is an Adult Medical Director and flight physician for Kalitta Medflight and previously a flight physician for Toledo Lifeflight. He is currently ABEM Board Certified and active in the national DMAT with Ohio-1 DMAT and active in tactical EMS servicing the Toledo Swat team previously and currently the Cambria County SERT team. Currently, Dr. Yoder is a firefighter and prehospital physician for Upper Yoder Township.

Dr. Neal graduated from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed clinical education at Geisinger Medical Center in Emergency Medicine and the Osteopathic Hospital of Maine, Inc. Dr. Neal is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He is the Regional Medical Directory of the State Medical Advisory Committee for the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services. He is also involved with the National Disaster Medical System, PA-1 DMAT, United States Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Neal is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians.

After graduating from Hahnemann Medical School, Dr. Campbell completed his internship and residency at Womack Army Hospital in North Carolina. His board certification in family practice and emergency medicine enables him to bring integrated approach to patient care.
