Beth Young
Environmental Services
Conemaugh Health System employee Beth Young is feeling pretty proud of herself these days – and with good reason! The environmental services employee, wife, mother and grandmother of two is now smoke free. “I have always wanted to quit, in fact I have tried two times before, but when I heard Conemaugh Health System was going to smoke free shifts, that was the motivation I needed to quit for good,” says Beth. Beth credits smoking cessation classes at Conemaugh Memorial with providing some valuable ways to help her on her journey to become smoke free. Her biggest motivation however has been her family. “My family is very proud of me. My grandchildren made me a little inspirational video and my husband, who is a non-smoker, has provided great support including little notes and even a bouquet of flowers to celebrate. He is very excited with my decision.” When she quit, Beth was smoking two to three packs a day. Since stopping, Beth’s blood pressure has returned to normal, she no longer needs to use an inhaler for asthma, she says she has more energy and has been told by others she seems “happier”. In addition to becoming smoke free, Beth has also joined Conemaugh’s Healthy Rewards program. She is walking more, eating better and has already lost a few pounds. “My mind is set and I am really happy with my decision,” adds Beth. “I hope I can provide inspiration to others.”
Congratulations, Beth! We're proud of you!
