Many cosmetic surgical procedures are not considered a medical necessity and may not be covered by insurance plans. Conemaugh Physician Group - Plastic Surgery offers affordable payment plans that meet individual needs. Procedures that restore function, such as eyelid retraction, visual field repairs, or different facets of rhinoplasty, can be considered medically necessary and are often covered by insurance plans. Patients are encouraged to check with insurance carrier before scheduling an appointment.
Many procedures can be done on an outpatient basis. Even complex procedures can be treated using minimally invasive techniques. The result? A quicker recovery, fewer complications and nearly invisible scars. Our plastic surgery physicians offer a full range of surgical treatments at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, including:

Spider Vein Treatment
LASER stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. This type of radiation does not cause cancer and is a valuable method for treating many clinical problems.
A low energy laser enables removal of actively growing hair from face, torso, and arms with relatively little discomfort, described by patients as a rubberband snap. The hair must be dark or black for the laser light to be absorbed and the hair follicle destroyed. Multiple treatments and periodic "touch ups" may be necessary as not all hair follicles are active at the same time. Laser hair removal treats larger areas effectively as it disables more than one hair follicle at a time with minimal discomfort. Slight redness or mild swelling may occur for a short time after treatment, but skin color and complexion become more uniform. The need for waxing, electrolysis, shaving, and bleaching are eliminated.
Facial or Extremity Pigmentation
Laser is now an option for removal of age spots. Previously this was only achievable through microdermabrasion, dermal peels, or dermal planning.
Spider Veins or Vascular Lesions
A vascular laser can be used to treat spider veins or vascular lesions such as port wine stains. Light and energy from the laser are absorbed by pigment that makes blood red, thus removing the pigment.
Verrucae or Warts
A carbon dioxide laser can be used to precisely treat verracae or warts. The precise laser results in limit or no damage to surrounding skin. Bleeding, swelling, and scarring are significantly reduced resulting in less recovery time than conventional surgery.
Scars resulting from trauma or surgery can be treated with a laser to become softer, smaller, and lighter.
Specific lasers that general light absorbed by specific colors are used to make tattoos less intense or remove them completely. "Dirt tattoos" or "road rash" that results after skin has healed over foreign matter can frequently be helped through laser procedures.
