Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center's Geriatric Psychiatric Inpatient program includes an 18-bed unit dedicated to provide care for individuals age 60 and older experiencing severe psychiatric symptoms.


Geriatric Psychiatric Symptoms

  • Confusion or disorientation
  • Depression
  • Suicidal thoughts or thoughts of hurting others
  • Anxiety
  • Sleep or eating disturbances
  • Inability to care for self
  • Psychosis

Treatment Team

Conemaugh Health System's Behavior Medicine treatment team consists of board certified psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse practitioners / physician assistants, nurses, social workers, recreational and occupational therapists, and additional healthcare specialists. The multi-disciplinary staff emphasizes a family-oriented approach and caregivers are encouraged to be active participants in the treatment team throughout a patient’s stay.

Admission Criteria

  • 60 years of age or older
  • Primary psychiatric diagnosis
  • Require geriatric inpatient treatment and admitted to a psychiatrist
  • Able to participate in unit activities and will benefit from a therapeutic setting and treatment program
