Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center's Maternity Department received a Cuddle Cot for parents who experience the loss of a child, including infant loss.
The Cuddle Cot is a system that cools the child and decreases the rate of natural changes that occur in death, allowing parents and family members the opportunity to spend more time with their baby.
Conemaugh Memorial received the generous donation from patient Ashley Lepley who experienced the loss of a child in June 2015. "I was 35 weeks pregnant and didn't feel any movement," says Lepley. "We came to the hospital and found out that we lost her. The Cuddle Cot would have given us more time with Sophia, so I'm hoping it can help another mother going through a loss."
Ashley and her husband, Brad, established the Sophia's Grace Foundation in honor of their daughter. Various fundraising activities to purchase the Cuddle CotTM have been hosted included a Light for Love 5K walk in October 2015.
"We are so thankful to Ashley and her family for this donation," says Tiffany Pugh, Nurse Manager of Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center's Maternity Department. "This will help improve the services we can offer to grieving parents and help others experiencing an infant loss."
"We hope that this Cuddle Cot not only helps other patients, but also helps in the healing process of the Lepley family," says April Behory, Director of Women and Child Services at Conemaugh Memorial. "The loss of a child is something no parent should have to experience. We are honored to help carry on the memory of Sophia and help others during difficult times."
