November 28, 2017

Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center’s Laboratory recently completed a successful four-day on-site inspection by The Joint Commission. The lab has been granted full accreditation for a period of two years.

Conemaugh Memorial’s lab is accredited by The Joint Commission, the College of American Pathologists (CAP), and the AABB for Transfusion Medicine. Conemaugh Memorial is now the only lab in the region to hold three accreditations.

“Accreditation is extremely important in assuring the laboratory is maintaining the precision and accuracy needed in reporting quality lab results that can be trusted by physicians,” says Lary Koval, Director of Laboratory Medicine for Conemaugh Health System. “While all laboratories in the state must be licensed, accreditation places Conemaugh’s lab at the industry’s highest level of achievement. We are very proud of our team.”

Benefits of accreditation include validating the lab’s strong patient safety program and reinforcing the community’s confidence in the quality and safety of care, treatment, and services provided by Conemaugh’s laboratory. Accreditation by The Joint Commission also verified the robust performance excellence plan in place by Conemaugh’s laboratory.

“Our team works very diligently to ensure that all of our laboratory testing is completed in a timely manner with patient safety and quality results as a priority,” says Tony Campagna, Vice President of Ancillary Services. “We are Making Communities Healthier by providing trusted results for proper diagnosis and care of patients.”
