Conemaugh Advanced Imaging Renews Accreditation for Breast MRI

August 16, 2017

Conemaugh Advanced Imaging MRI, a department of Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, received a 3 year renewal of Accreditation by the American College of Radiology (ACR) for Breast MRI.

ACR accreditation shows that Breast MRI at Conemaugh Advanced Imaging is committed to exceeding national standards. To improve quality and safety, as well as to help patients and the medical community identify radiology centers performing well in this area, the ACR offers accreditation in various modalities. The ACR accreditation program for breast MRI has existed since 2010 and accreditation is granted only to radiology centers demonstrating exceptional adherence to stringent standards.

In order to achieve accreditation in breast MRI, a radiology center must undergo a rigorous peer-review process that considers staff qualifications, imaging equipment, quality control and assurance, MR safety policies and image quality. When a radiology center is granted accreditation, patients are assured that the practice excels in these areas compared with many other radiology centers.

“The ACR breast MRI accreditation reaffirms our commitment to providing high quality breast care to the women in our community,” says Michelle Cacek, DO, Director of Women’s Imaging Services for the Conemaugh Health System. “We remain one of the only centers in our area that offer MRI guided breast biopsies and we will continue to strive toward providing safe, high quality breast MRI and excellence in patient care.”

In order for a facility to be granted accreditation, they must provide high quality MRI images of the Breast as well as meet specific required qualification standards for Physician, Technologist, and Medical Physicists. The accreditation process requires the facility to follow strict quality control measurements in addition to adhering to Safety and Quality Assurance.

“Obtaining this accreditation symbolizes a team effort of the imaging staff, nursing staff, and physicians involved in this process,” adds Dr. Cacek.  “It also demonstrates that our patients are having their test performed at a facility dedicated to Making Communities Healthier.”

The Breast MRI Accreditation Program provides facilities performing breast MRI procedures with peer review and constructive feedback on staff qualifications, equipment, quality control, quality assurance, MR safety policies and image quality.
