2017 Donate Life Community Challenge

April is National Donate Life Month

In recognition of organ, tissue, and eye donation awareness, Conemaugh Health System's Organ, Tissue, and Eye Donor Advisory Committee (OTE DAC) is hosting its second annual Donate Life Community Challenge throughout the month of April.

Nationally, over 120,000 indivduals are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant, including over 8,000 individuals in Pennsylvania. While 90% of Americans agree with organ donation, only 46% of Americans are registered as organ donors. National Donate Life Month is an opportunity to highlight the importance of donation and work to increase registrations.

Donations in 2016 by Conemaugh Health System patients have resulted in 18 life-saving organ transplants, 36 cornea transplants, and as many as 1,500 life-enhancing tissue transplants. Additionally, Countless individuals may someday benefit from organs, and tissues, that were recovered for research.

Conemaugh Health System has won state and national recognition for its organ, tissue and eye donation awareness initatives.
